Whether it's to fund a payroll account domestically, pay for goods from an overseas supplier, reconcile a multi-currency account with a correspondent bank or purchase real estate, the demand for urgent payments is growing fast.

But making payments that fast is a surprisingly complex task. It requires numerous interfaces to back-office systems such as checking the DDA account to ensure adequate balances, gathering information from the Customer Information File to enhance STP and interfacing to payment origination and receipt systems such as FX, Securities, or Trade Finance.

In addition urgent payments require a level of risk checking that far exceeds any other payment type. There's fraud, regulatory risk such as anti-money laundering and OFAC, as well as credit risk.
